My Week In A Nutshell

My Week In A Nutshell 10/19/18

TGIF friends! This was a busy week in the office. We had visitors in our office for most of the week and the noise levels were pretty bad. Not an ideal environment for this introvert at all. It’s been exhausting, to say the least. Since I could barely hear myself think, I didn’t even try to listen to an audiobook at work this week. Instead, I listened to music. It was mostly Disney songs because I was missing my vacation FEELS and the songs were giving me life in the middle of all that adulting.

I did manage to finish some books this week and catch up on episodes of my shows so I actually have something to share with you this week. Yay! Let’s jump in, shall we?

Books Read:  3

A People’s History of the Vampire Uprising is set in the future where vampires slowly take over the world and how society reacts to the existence of a creature that is supposed to be fictional. That is a very high-level generalization of it. There are quite a bit of things going on that I don’t want to go into because of spoilers. I really enjoyed how this story is told in an alternative format instead of a linear/traditional story. This horrific tale is slowly unveiled through a collection of news articles, personal accounts, interviews, etc. The downside is that there isn’t enough character development. I rated it 4 stars.

American Street is a YA contemporary that follows Fabiola Toussaint, a teenage girl that leaves Haiti with her mother to live in the United States. Things go wrong when her mother is detained by U.S. immigration and Fabiola finds herself on her own. Without the guidance of her mother Fabiola tries to find her place with her aunt and outspoken cousins while adjusting to a new school. This book slapped me upside down with all the EMOTIONS! This is my first experience with Zoboi’s work and I can’t wait to pick up Pride off my TBR shelf. I rated it 4 stars.

Pieces of Her is a suspense thriller that follows Andrea whose world is turned upside down after surviving a horrible incident. This is told in dual timelines and dual perspectives. I don’t really want to go too much into this one since I will be putting up a full-length review. I rated it 3 stars. It wasn’t my favorite Karin Slaughter but it was terrible either. It was just somewhere in between.

Books Currently Reading: I’m currently in the middle of these 6 books.

This week on the blog:

It’s been a bit slow on the blog this week compared to last week. Work pretty much kicked my ass so I wasn’t feeling up to blogging after work. I did manage a few so here are the posts I’ve managed to get up on the blog this week.

This week I watched:

I finally caught up on The Voice. It is one of the few reality competition shows I watch faithfully. I’m really loving the talent on the show this year and struggling to find a favorite. I’ll narrow down my picks after the knockouts and share with you who I’ll be voting for at that time.

I also caught up on Grey’s Anatomy, and The Good Doctor. I’m not sure if I like where the season is going for both shows yet. I’ll give it a couple of more episodes before I decide. I have not started any of the other shows from this fall season yet. I’m thinking I might want to re-watch Charmed on Netflix instead. Listening to the promos for the reboot just make me miss the original show. Why watch the remake when I can re-watch the original?

This weekend is Dewey’s 24hr readathon. I want to participate but I’m not sure how much reading I’ll be able to do. This weekend is my dad’s birthday so I’m thinking I’ll have plans on Saturday. I’m still waiting for my sister to respond to my text message to finalize our plans.

I might just lowkey participate and try to get at least one of these read before the end of the weekend. The top three are books I borrowed from my library via my Hoopla app. The bottom three are books I own that are part of my SpookAthon TBR.

That’s it for this week’s My Week In A Nutshell. Will you be participating in the readathon this weekend? Have you read any of the books I featured in today’s post? Let’s chat down below in the comments.

As always keep on reading and stay book nerdy my friends!
